MINUTES
President Herold called the Cresco Park and Recreation meeting to order on 8/14/2024, at 12:00 pm at the Cresco Fitness Center (CFC). Board Members Denner, Hovden and O’Brien were present.
Also Present: Brandon Kerian and Rich McConnell
O’Brien made the motion to approve the consent agenda which included the approval of the agenda; claims, and minutes of the July 17, 2024 meeting. Denner seconded the motion and it passed all ayes.
Other Business: – – –
Comments from the audience: – – –
Park Board Interviews: Hovden made the motion to appoint Leigh Myers as the new Park and Rec Board member contingent on her availability for our monthly meetings. O’Brien seconded the motion and it passed all ayes.
Kerian reported on the Fitness Center: Memberships – 813, up from last month!
New Building Update: Scott Thomson was present to learn more about the building update and next steps. Kerian met with Emergent and they will provide 3-4 renderings for review. Emergent is very hands on. They help map out various processes from planning, implementation, community engagement, and fundraising. Scott highly encouraged Kerian to apply for the Howard County Community Foundation Grant. Potential of $15,000. Suggested to use some of that money to highlight the “why” this update is needed: heating, parking, mold, asbestos, not ADA compliant, wasted/unused space, etc. Also discussed the importance of starting focus groups to ensure public opinions from all ages are being heard.
LOST Projects: Would like to revisit some of the updating projects needed within the facility: painting, bathrooms, flooring, showers. Will review/compile and determine priority and present them to the board.
Community Events & CFC/Park & Rec. FitCrew Program: Will be offering a Free Will Donation, Halloween themed, 5K, on October 26. Hoping to offer this annually. Good response from FitCrew program and will look to those members for feedback and assistance in bringing new ideas to the Fitness Center, Park and Rec and the community.
Kerian reported on Recreation: Summer Recap & Fall Registration: Compared 2023 with 2024 and all the additions were extremely positive. Offered 4 new programs, had 97 more student registrations and earned an additional $21,866 in revenue. This does not include Swim Team, which also had record numbers of 86 participants. Lots of positive progress, with continued ideas to improve, enhance and grow the offerings.
Fall Registration is live and already projecting to have higher registrations than last year.
O’Brien moved to adjourn at 1:14 pm. Denner seconded and it passed all ayes.
The next regular Cresco Park and Rec meeting is scheduled for September 11 at 6:00 pm at CFC.
Respectfully Submitted,
Holly O’Brien, Board Secretary
