Mayor Bohle called the Cresco City Council special meeting to order on January 18, 2021, at 5:30 pm at Champlin Hall. Council Members Brenno, McConnell, Fortune, Bouska, and Carman were present. No council members were absent.
The budget requests for FY2022 resulted in an overall projected loss of $695,500. The biggest cuts need to be made in the General Funds and Proprietary Funds. The property tax levy is projected to increase $.0909 per thousand over the current year’s levy.
The Council went through all of the big equipment and project requests to prioritize them. Several items were removed from the budget to be done in a later budget and some items were removed that will only be done if the equipment breaks down. The reserve balances are healthy enough to absorb these expenditures if they are deemed necessary and a budget amendment would be done to cover them.
The Council will commit to reviewing the City’s Strategic Plan and Comprehensive Plan. These plans will be updated and a Capital Improvement Plan will be adopted. A facilitator may be utilized to help with community input and final report compilations.
The City Clerk will make the adjustments for the cuts in the budget and prepare new workpapers. Another budget worksession was scheduled for 5:30 pm on February 1, 2021 at City Hall to review the revised budget.
Mayor Bohle asked for comments from the audience and there were none.
Carman moved to adjourn the Council Meeting at 7:01 pm. Brenno seconded and it passed all ayes. The next regular Cresco City Council meeting will be January 18, 2021, at 7:00 pm at Champlin Hall.
