MINUTES

Cresco Theatre Commission

The Cresco Theatre Commission met Monday, March 11th, 2024, at 5:30 PM in Champlin Hall.  Members present were David Gosch, Kelly Bartling, Ann Seebach, Kari Waterbeck, and Julie Wilson.  Steve Lickteig was unable to attend.  Guests:  Wendy Lickteig, Cresco Theatre Manager, Joe Wacha, Cresco Community Theatre, and Stan Fosaaen, City Council.

The March agenda, February minutes, and financials were reviewed.  Ann Seebach made the motion to approve, seconded by Kelly Bartling, and unanimously approved by the Commission.

Wendy Lickteig presented the manager’s report.  Upcoming movies will be” Dune 2” and “Ghostbusters.”  Other upcoming events will be:  3/24-free matinee, 3/30-live performance, Johnny Cash Tribute, 4/8-Notre Dame School Concert, 4/14-Root River Jam, 4/21-Dance Recital, and another upcoming Notre Dame School Concert in May.  Wendy asked for assistance at several of these events.  Commission members and Friends of Theatre will be asked to assist.  Julie Wilson and Kari Waterbeck will line up Friends of Theatre.  Wendy presented a possible new salary schedule for Theatre employees.  Kelly Bartling made the motion to approve this new salary schedule effective April 1st, 2024 as shown below with the new starting wage of $8.00 for concessions/cleaning and $9.00 for shift leaders, seconded by Julie Wilson, and unanimously approved by the Commission.

Old Business:

  1. Friends of Theatre-Will be asked to assist at Theatre on 3/30 and 4/14.
  2. Theatre Seats-No report
  3. Scene Shop-The Commission discussed cost-saving ideas for the Scene Shop. A motion to contact the architect to redraw the plans, minus the below-level storage area, with a slab only/one level floor was made by Ann Seebach, seconded by Kelly Bartling, and unanimously approved by the Commission.

New Business:

  1. Fundraising-A gambling license has been purchased by the city and we may share rights.
  2. 110 Year Anniversary-Plans continue for August 24th, 2024. Looney Lutherans are scheduled that day at 2:00, and a free outdoor movie is being planned.
  3. Next meeting dates: March 25th, 2024, at 6:45 PM, and April 9th, 2024, at 5:30 PM.  Motion to approve these meetings was made by Ann Seebach, seconded by Kelly Bartling, and unanimously approved by the Commission.

Comments:

  1. Comments from Community Theatre-Joe Wacha and Dave Gosch discussed the benefits of rejoining the Iowa Theatre Association.
  2. Comments from Chamber-They are using the Theatre for a Rural Housing Meeting on March 12th, 2024.
  3. Comments from City Council-Stan Fosaaen had nothing new to report.
  4. Comments from the Audience-None
