Water Department

Personnel are responsible for the Water Treatment Plant and maintaining the distribution system. Cresco has two wells which pump water every day.

Staff is responsible for a variety of tasks including testing, chemical additives, and working with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Testing is done 7 days a week 365 days a year. These tests are sent to the Iowa DNR on a monthly basis so to make certain that the City is operating in a safe and approved manner.

To ensure water quality, the department flushes the water mains through fire hydrants. This improves water quality, as well as provides inspection of the hydrants. If there is a problem during hydrant inspection, the department will make those repairs also.

The department is responsible for repairs to the distribution system including water main breaks, water meter change-outs, meter repair, and meter reading. Staff works closely with the Mayor, City Council, and City Hall.

The goal of the department is to provide excellent customer service as well as providing the best quality water possible.
